The article which forms the basis of this lesson comes from Psychology Today. Its title is “Top 10 Secrets of Effective Liars.” Teaching your students to lie in English may be controversial, but if it’s done in a fun and exciting way – like here – there’s no harm done.

The “Lie Detector” activity which follows the reading is a good “icebreaker” – an ice-breaking exercise which you can use to let your students get to know you better. The level at which this lesson starts to work smoothly is good Upper-Intermediate – although you could probably deliver an intensive lesson to your Intermediate students with this worksheet. If so, use the vocabulary activity for pre-teaching (possibly with a dictionary). Have fun – and don’t get caught lying!
